Insignia NS-43DF710NA21 review: Unboxing and first looks
This 43-inch screen comes with a remote and batteries. It also ships with a power cord, a pair of legs, and the screws you need to fasten said legs. Have your own media cables at hand because there are none. Let’s jump right into our Insignia NS-43DF710NA21 review:
This TV has a simple design with glossy trim that frames the screen and the edges of the panel. The back surface is matte plastic with a little texture to it. It has a 200×200 VESA wall mount pattern and two sets of inputs. One set of inputs has rear-facing ports while the ports on the second set face outward.
Inputs and connectivity
Being a smart TV, the Insignia NS-43DF710 has Wi-Fi connectivity to facilitate streaming. It also has Bluetooth connectivity to accommodate the remote, so that’s new. Your cable box connects to the TV via a coaxial connector at the back, allowing you to watch over-the-air channels, in HD if you want.

There’s also a selection of ports to connect your devices. On the rear-facing inset you’ll find:
- Ethernet port
- Digital optical audio output
- A set of AV ports
- Coaxial antenna/cable box connector
The outward-facing inset has three HDMI ports, including one with ARC capability. The inset also holds a USB port (that works best with the FAT32 file format) and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Hardware and picture quality
This 43-inch Insignia TV is a 4K panel with a 60fps refresh rate. It has an impressive contrast ratio of 4000:1, which comes down to excellent black levels. The display is bright enough to support HDR content, but it falls short of supporting formats like Dolby digital. Here is how the TV performs on different metrics:
1. Color accuracy
You will have to make adjustments right out of the box. Once you tweak the color settings to your satisfaction, the colors will look rich and lifelike. However, limited viewing angles mean that the colors start to wash out as you move to the side of the TV.
2. Brightness and contrast
The display has passable peak brightness levels and deep, dark blacks. This translates to support for HDR content and an impressive native contrast ratio of 4000:1. Good contrast helps with the delivery of detail and texture, which this 43” Insignia model does well. That said you will notice a lack of detail in dark scenes.
3. Screen uniformity and backlighting
Being a budget, edge-lit display, the Insignia NS-43DF710NA21 suffers some light bleedthrough. This is most noticeable at the edges.
Pros
- Great price for a 4K smart TV
- High resolution and HDR support
- Rich color and great contrast
- Alexa support and a remote with a microphone
- Loud if fussy speakers
Cons
- Poor color accuracy out of the box
- Internal speakers are a little underwhelming
- This TV may not automatically detect your soundbar, which would force you to go into the settings to make a few adjustments
- No HBO Max, Spectrum, or Peacock apps available on the Fire TV platform
- You may have to run an update or two in order to stabilize the panel’s version of Fire TV
