If you are looking for a functional laptop that does not cost much, this Lenovo Chromebook C330 review is for you. The C330 is a budget two-in-one laptop that runs on Chrome OS. Its biggest draw is that it is affordable and has a touchscreen that can rotate through 360 degrees. These are good qualities to have in a laptop.

The question is, what else does the Chromebook C330 have to offer?

Lenovo Chromebook C330 Review: The design

The laptop is encased in a white plastic housing which has the Lenovo and Chrome logos on the lid. With an 11.6 inch screen lined with thick bezels on all four edges, the Chrome C330 is a small laptop that looks kind of cute. It weighs about two and a half pounds, which is quite light as far as two-in-one convertible laptops go.

The laptop has a keyboard with black keys and white markings. Unfortunately, the keyboard is not backlit.

Connectivity

The Chromebook C330 has one thing going for it. It has enough ports to connect any devices you may need. On its left side is an HDMI port, a USB C port, a USB A port and an SD card slot. The power cable plugs into one of the USB ports.

The right side of the laptop has the power button, a volume rocker, an audio jack and a slot for a computer lock.

Lenovo Chromebook C330 review: Specifications and performance

The laptop is powered by a quad-core ARM chip that has two pairs of processors. (One pair runs at 2.1 GHz and the other runs at 1.7 GHz) To complement the ARM chip is a MediaTek processor and 4GB of RAM.

The Chromebook also has internal storage, a memory card slot and cloud storage, courtesy of Google. These specifications allow the Chromebook to stream video and browse the internet, but they are not enough to handle heavy usage. Open too many applications, and the laptop slows down considerably.

Battery holding time

One upside of the low specifications is a long-lasting battery which can hold for six hours under heavy use.

Display and sound

The 11.6 inch IPS screen renders rich, saturated colors but its resolution is limited at 1,366 x 768 pixels. This means that images with fine detail come out grainy. What is more, the brightness and image contrast of the screen is low, which makes displayed images hard to make out in a bright room.

You will have to watch the video in a darkened room to avoid glare and enjoy clear, sharp pictures

Pros

  • This Chromebook model has a long battery life
  • It also has a high-quality keyboard
  • It is affordable
  • There are sufficient of ports that you can use to plug in peripheral devices

Cons

  • It has large bezels that eat into the already limited display area
  • The image quality could be better
  • There is no pen support for the touchscreen
  • The keyboard has no backlight
  • The sound quality is not very good

The Lenovo Chromebook C330 review verdict: A tradeoff between price and performance

On the plus side, the two-in-one Chromebook C330 is an affordable PC with a nice keyboard and long battery life. Its downside, however, is its performance and display. With a resolution of 1,366 x 768 pixels, the display renders grainy images, which is almost unheard of in this age of HD displays. It is also slower than competing models.

So, who should buy this laptop?

A person who only needs to browse the internet and stream videos. If you want something that can handle more demanding applications, spend a little bit more money and get a more powerful alternative. Click here to learn more about the C330 or purchase one.
